Advanced Modern: Classical modern technique expands on and
reaches beyond the
classical curriculum, the course includes choreography
movement exploration and improvisation
and performance
opportunities.
Ballet I - VI: Classical ballet technique emphasizes
proper line and placement as the basis for technique. Steps and
combinations are learned and become more intricate and challenging as the levels
progress. Strength, stretch, balance and agility are part of the
progression.
Pointe is offered as an option to dancers
age 12 and above who have been attending at least three
classes per week and are
recommended by the instructor. A special emphasis on musicality an
the joy of moving and performance is an important part of the dance experience at
DTW.
Beginning Tap: 7-10year
olds--Tap shoes required. Tap dance basics and routines to
musical theater music. (Oliver,
Annie, High School Musical)
Classical Ballet I/II: 8 - 11 year olds--Class includes Classical Ballet barre, center work, cross
floor combinations
and exercises to improve strength and flexibility.
Creative Ballet: Emphasis on Classical Ballet vocablulary, creative movement,
body
stretches and strengthening, sequencing and locomotor patterns.
Intro to Dance: A
class for 31/2 & 4 year olds that teaches basic dance vocabulary,
positions, and
steps of dance as well as
nurtures the love of dance through the use of creative movement
by exploring
rhythm, sequencing, and locomotive patterns.
Intermediate Jazz: This class for students 12-17 includes the teaching of basic classical jazz
vocabulary, stretching and
strengthening, jazz combinations and routines to popular music.
Prerequisite: at least one year of ballet or jazz technique.
Modern/ Theater Dance: Combines
basic ballet elements with introductory jazz, musical
theater dance and classical
modern movements. Coordination, strength, stretch and line,
performance quality, flight and fun make
up
this a fun and accessible class for teenagers
who are
interested in exploring movement
in a supportive, lively and non-threatening
environment.
Musical Theater: 7-10 year olds-- this
class
focuses on learning songs, dances as well as
monologues
form different Broadway
Musicals. Classes will include instruction in a variety of
dance styles, as
well as games to improve vocal projection, imagination, and stage
presence.
Story Book Ballet Theater:
This student ballet company has received
numerous accolades and invitations to perform, often in
collaboration, with organizations that bring performance to the community.Participation is by invitation only.
Dancers must attend a minimum of four DTW "ballet program" classes each
week..Tuesday is company class. No tuition is charged for that class.Recent performances have included:
Coppelia and the Toy Shoppe
with Free Arts of AZ at ScottsdaleCenter for the Arts, and Winter Fairy
Tales..a collaboration with School of Ballet AZ an AZ School of
Classical Ballet at the Herberger. Dance For Darfur
Fundraising Concert at Arcadia High School,Scottsdale Center
for the Arts Spring Festival, Head Start Fundraiser at the
Herberger Theater,AHAA Hospice Art Auction at the AZ Biltmore
Hotel and American Voices sponsored by Center Dance
Ensemble at the Herberger.
